AS9100

AS9100 (EN 9100 in Europe, JISQ 9100 in Asia) is the quality management system standard for aviation, space, and defense organizations that design, manufacture, or maintain products.

It contains the full text of ISO 9001 plus aerospace additions: product safety, counterfeit part prevention, configuration management, human factors, risk-based production controls, first article inspection references, and stronger supplier and delivery performance monitoring. The current edition is AS9100D (2016).

The next edition is being renamed IA9100 and is expected to publish after ISO 9001:2026, likely late 2026 or early 2027 (verify with the IAQG).

In writing, the standard expects a documented QMS scope and quality policy, procedures covering the ISO 9001 and aerospace-specific processes, a product safety and counterfeit parts approach, configuration management records, production process verification records, control of work transfers, and management of customer and statutory requirements.

Certification is done only through the IAQG-controlled scheme, and every certificate must appear in the OASIS database.

Who has to comply

Voluntary in law, mandatory in practice for suppliers to aerospace and defense primes and their tiers. Most primes flow down AS9100 (or AS9110 for maintenance organizations, AS9120 for distributors) in purchase terms and use OASIS to verify status.

What the assessor asks to see

QMS scope, quality policy, and organization; context and interested parties; documented processes with interactions; product safety and counterfeit parts prevention procedures; configuration management records; design and development records where applicable; supplier approval, monitoring, and flow-down records; production process verification and first article inspection records; work transfer and special process controls; measuring equipment calibration; nonconforming product control including customer notification; on-time delivery and quality performance data; corrective action records; internal audit and management review records; OASIS registration and previous audit history.

Where the requirement sits: ISO 9001 7.5 inherited; AS9100 7.3 (awareness incl. ethical behaviour, product safety); 8.1.1-8.1.4; AS9102 FAI records

OASIS database

The Online Aerospace Supplier Information System (OASIS) is the IAQG's database of every accredited AS9100, AS9110, and AS9120 certificate, plus the certification bodies, accreditation bodies, and authenticated auditors in the scheme. Listing is mandatory; a supplier that refuses to be listed has its certificate revoked.

Anyone with a free account can look up certificate status; audit results are visible only to users the supplier authorizes.

IA9100 revision

The IAQG is aligning the next 9100 series revision with ISO 9001:2026 and renaming the family IA9100, IA9110, and IA9120 (IA for International Aerospace). Publication is anticipated in late 2026 or early 2027, after ISO 9001:2026. Certified organizations should expect a single transition window announced by the IAQG; audits to the current AS9100D continue until then.

Assessors

Who assesses AS9100

Certification bodies accredited under the IAQG scheme (9104-1) by an IAQG-recognized accreditation body, using IAQG-authenticated aerospace auditors. Accredited by IAQG-recognized accreditation bodies (for example ANAB in the US, UKAS in the UK, DAkkS in Germany, JAB in Japan) working under IAQG oversight.

Consultants

Who helps with AS9100

A large aerospace-focused consultant ecosystem exists. Implementers run gap analyses against AS9100D, write procedures and flowcharts, set up counterfeit parts and product safety processes, prepare first article and configuration records, train internal auditors, and coach through the certification body audit.

Engagements typically run six to twelve months for a first certification.
